A few days before Easter in 2013, my brother Kellen suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car accident. Over the next four months in three hospitals, we watched as he was forced to re-learn how to breathe and eat on his own, communicate and move his body. Nearly a year after leaving Craig Hospital, Kellen continues to recover, while showing a keen sense of humor, an always positive attitude and great determination.

Kellen’s TBI has forever changed his life, as well as the lives of everyone in our family. TBIs can be brutal, devastating and extremely difficult to understand and manage. More than 200,000 individuals live with the effects of a brain injury in Colorado and 5,000 new cases are reported every year.

The Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado is dedicated to serving individuals affected by all forms of injuries to the brain such as stroke, TBI, tumor, anoxia and infection. Its mission is to improve the quality of life for survivors by connecting them with resources to help navigate the path of rehabilitation.

A year ago, Kellen rode in his wheelchair in Manitou Springs. This year, he will walk. Please consider pledging to help everyone in Colorado who suffers a TBI get help in their recovery.
