This is our third time hiking to the top of Pike’s Peak with the Brain Injury Alliance. Brain Injury does not only occur as the result of trauma. Of particular interest to me, babies born very prematurely are at particularly high risk of developing bleeding into their brain. This brain injury in such small, fragile infants can have lifetime devastating consequences. Term infants born in traumatic situations can also suffer brain injuries.
