Dear Family and Friends!

I’ll be hiking to the Summit of 14,115′ Pikes Peak on September 10th, to raise funds for the Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado. When I finish, I will have hiked 13 miles and 7,400 vertical feet to the summit to join other hikers and supporters in celebration of brain injury awareness and prevention. You’ve supported me in this or other adventures in life and I hope you can find a way to help again, but please do not feel any obligation. Sending your best wishes towards Pikes Peak on the morning of Sept 10th, is also great support!

The Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado is the go-to resource for help and services for survivors of an injury to the brain, their families and providers. BIAC has a simple mission – that every Brain Injury Survivor thrive in our community.

The Summit Hike is quite an undertaking considering the altitude and possible weather conditions I might encounter, but it pales in comparison to what survivors of Brain Injury face every day. In the United States a Brain Injury occurs every 23 seconds. Based on national estimates, there are more annual incidences of Brain Injuries than Multiple Sclerosis, Spinal Cord Injuries, HIV/AIDS and Breast Cancer put together. We now know that over 20% of our American Soldiers are returning home from combat tours with Brain Injuries and some have sustained several. The NFL has put TBI in the news as they try to understand the immediate and long term impact of repeated hits to the head.
