I am participating in the Pikes Peak Challenge Summit Hike in honor of my high-school friend, Kumi, who was hit by a drunk driver on 2/13/87 and suffered a traumatic brain injury, she was 18 years old. For the last 34 years Kumi has required 24 hour care.

This is Team Kumi’s 13th year participating in the Pikes Peak Challenge to celebrate Kumi’s birthmonth and raise awareness for brain injury survivors to raise critical funding for BIAC. From Kumi’s nursing home bed, she continues to inspire and motivate so many. I am incredibly grateful for all Team Kumi Members; hikers, givers, & supporters PAST, PRESENT, & FUTURE.

Kumi, you are my inspiration and you impact my life in such positive ways. I am forever grateful for your presence in my life.
