Volunteer

You don’t have to be involved financially to help make a difference. The Pikes Peak Challenge relies heavily on community volunteers to help provide a safe and enjoyable event. The Pikes Peak Challenge utilizes volunteers in several areas. Please take a minute to review the volunteer opportunities available. Date: Saturday, September 12, 2026
Location: Fields Park in Manitou Springs
Details: Morning volunteers report at 9:00 AM to assist with the Manitou Springs Walk, which includes walker participant check in, T-shirt and prize distribution, park set-up, traffic control and general assistance.

Afternoon volunteers report at 12:00 PM to assist with lunch, greeting participants, prize distribution and general assistance.

Evening volunteers report at 4:00 PM to assist with park break down and clean-up.

Shuttle vanTransportation

Date: Saturday, September 12, 2026
Location: Pikes Peak Highway
Details: Morning Shift Drivers (4:00 AM to about 11:30 AM ) are needed to transport participants from check in at Fields Park to the trailhead on Hydro Street in Manitou Springs. Volunteers need to be between the ages of 25 and 67 per vendor and insurance requirements, and will be driving 15-passenger vans or coach buses. You need to have a clear driving record with no DUI or DWI violations.

Afternoon Shift Drivers (11:30 AM to approximately 6:30 PM) are needed to transport participants from the summit of Pikes Peak to Fields Park in Manitou Springs and hikers from the Trailhead to Fields Park. Volunteers need to be between the ages of 25 and 67 per vendor and insurance requirements, and will be driving 15-passenger vans. You need to have a clear driving record with no DUI or DWI violations. Volunteers need to be comfortable with mountain driving in all conditions.

Drivers for all shifts must also attend the Driver Training (in-person or virtually) OR watch the video after the training if you cannot attend the scheduled date.

Location: Along Barr Trail
Details: The Pikes Peak Challenge staffs Barr Trail at seven different check points to assist hikers on their ascent to the summit. Interested volunteers need to be comfortable working at altitude for approximately 12 hours during the event. Hiking experience, Wilderness Medical, EMT, Paramedic, First Responder or First Aid experience a plus.

  • I acknowledge and agree that weather conditions may be hazardous during the Pikes Peak Challenge. I hereby release and hold blameless from all claims or liabilities of any kind the Brain Injury Association of Colorado's (BIAC) Pikes Peak Challenge, the Brain Injury Association of Colorado, Think First, U.S. Forest Service, The City of Colorado Springs, sponsors, or any staff for any injury I may suffer. I assume responsibility for emergency medical care and transportation by ambulance or helicopter.

    In the event of an emergency, accident or illness, I hereby give permission to be treated by professional medical personnel and to be admitted to a hospital, if necessary. I give consent for any emergency procedure or treatment, which may be necessary, including medical transportation by ambulance, helicopter or other means. I agree to be the party responsible for any and all medical transportation, all medical expenses, which are incurred on my behalf.

    I hereby acknowledge that the BIAC Pikes Peak Challenge staff, its agents, sponsors and all other parties involved are under no obligation to provide medical care in the event of an accident or illness. Therefore, in the event that I do receive medical care as a result of medical emergency, I consent to such and fully release the persons providing such from any and all liability, whether resulting from negligence, omission or otherwise.

    In acknowledgement of the possible dangers and risks of volunteering for the BIAC Pikes Peak Challenge, which I assume unconditionally, I hereby state that my general health is good except as qualified on the medical information portion of this form, and that I am capable of performing the physical activities in order to volunteer for the BIAC Pikes Peak Challenge.

    I grant full permission for organizers to use photographs or video clips, sound or quotations from me in legitimate accounts and promotions of this event.
