Why is supporting TBI survivors so important to me? Because I never want another family to go through what my family did after my brother'sTBI in 2014. More importantly, I never want someone to go through what my brother did. Suffering from TBI symptoms for two years made him feel isolated, defeated, and alone. He was behind in school, missing out on social engagements, and suffering through pain we didn't know about. Although my parents supported him every step of the way, some medical professionals he saw did not. To this day, I still get angry when people tell me what he went through was "just a concussion." It was a life altering injury, just as every TBI is. Since those days, he has entered college, where he studies computer science. He is mostly headache and symptom free. The only reminder of his injury are the glasses he started wearing to help his eyes. He will likely always wear them. His journey has made me the advocate I am today.

As for me, you can find me advocating for care, research, and support on many platforms. My social media is often filled with the latest test results or experimental treatments. You can find me on the Miss Colorado stage sharing my brother's story. Hopefully soon, you will find me volunteering with numerous organizations dedicated to supporting survivors. They have already been through enough as it is.
